| Brussels, 4th Feb 2016; Sajjad Karim MEP today welcomed the USA’s support of the UK’s continued membership of the European Union.Dr Karim met with the US Ambassador to the EU, Anthony Gardner, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, who stressed the importance of Britain remaining within the EU.
The Ambassador argued it was in the interests of both the US & the UK to stay as a member of the 28 country European bloc, also stating how supportive America is of British membership of the EU. During the meeting the two also discussed other issues, including on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
Speaking on the discussion, Dr Karim said:
“Today’s meeting with Mr Gardner demonstrates how essential a partner America is to Britain. The offer of support from the Ambassador and his country is of great encouragement, and underlines the importance of the UK remaining a member of the European Union. “To hear such words of support from one of our closest allies is highly encouraging and I hope the British people realise the same thing as our neighbours – that our future lies in leadership, and that means a strong United Kingdom in a strong European Union.”
