Kamran Lashari reelected president ORU

Director General Kamran Lashari was reelected the president of Government College University, Lahore Old Ravians Union (ORU).

LAHORE: Walled City Authority Director General Kamran Lashari was reelected the president of Government College University, Lahore Old Ravians Union (ORU) unopposed as all the other candidates for the post withdrew their nomination papers in favor of the senior bureaucrat. It was revealed on Wednesday by ORU Elections committee comprising District and Sessions Judge Haroon Latif Khan, Advocate Ch Tanvir Ahmed and GCU Political Science Department Chairperson Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt. It was the third consecutive elections when the president of the union was elected unopposed. Four years back, noted nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarikmand was also elected president of the union unopposed, while in 2012, no candidate had filed nominations against Kamran Lashari.

The elections committee revealed that the elections for seats of Vice President (Male), Secretary General, Treasurer and representatives of 1950s, 1970s, and 2000 will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 on the university campus.

Kamran Lashari studied at the Government College Lahore for four years from 1967 to 1971 and did his Intermediate and Graduation from there. He was captain of GCU Swimming Team and was also awarded Academic Roll of Honor by his alma mater in sports.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said congratulated Kamran Lashari on his unopposed election to the office of the president of the Union, saying that “it is a healthy tradition that old students of GCU respect their seniors and they have unanimously accepted Lashari as their president.” The Vice Chancellor said that old student unions should only be meant for holding reunion dinners and other recreational activities; rather their bigger role was to support the development of their alma mater. He also highlighted the invaluable contributions of Kamran Lashari in various development sectors. He acknowledged that Kamran Lashari despite his busy schedule has always spared time for the guidance of young scholars and researchers of his alma mater.

Only his reelection as president, Kamran Lashari expressed gratitude to all the members for Old Ravians Union for posing a great trust on him and pledged to play more active role in increasing collaboration between Old Ravians and their alma mater

Later, the ORU Election Committee also revealed that Kinnaird College faculty member Dr Seeba Alam, Dr Muhammad Rashid Shiekh, former federal secretary Qazi Afaq Ahmed, eminent banker Faiq Ahmed and businessman Bilal Ahmed Wahla were also elected unopposed on the seats Vice President (ladies), Representative 1940s,
Representative 1960s, Representative 1980s and Representative 1990s respectively.
