ISLAMABAD: Pakistan today said India wants to use water as a weapon against it by “flagrantly violating” its international treaty obligations.

“Fatemi also condemned the stated intent of India to use water as a weapon against the people of Pakistan, in flagrant violation of its international treaty obligations. He charged that such an action could only be contemplated by an irresponsible state,” Pakistan Foreign Office here said in a statement.

Pakistan had earlier warned the unilateral revocation of the Indus treaty by India will be considered as an ‘act of war’.

Fatemi, who leading Pakistan’s delegation to the 43rd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Uzbekistan, called upon the international community to reject the India’s claim that Kashmir is an integral part of India.

Characterizing India’s claim as “ridiculous”, Fatemi said that the Jammu and Kashmir is recognised by the United Nations as an international dispute between two sovereign member-states.

He called upon the Muslim community to continue its support for the Kashmiris in their just struggle for the right of self-determination.

He “called for fair, independent and transparent inquiry into the grave human rights violations by the Indian security forces in Kashmir”.
