{"id":512,"date":"2015-05-20T18:58:46","date_gmt":"2015-05-20T18:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/?p=512"},"modified":"2015-05-20T18:58:46","modified_gmt":"2015-05-20T18:58:46","slug":"sajjad-karim-mep-signs-eu-resolution-on-the-plight-of-rohingya-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/?p=512","title":{"rendered":"Sajjad Karim MEP signs EU resolution on the plight of Rohingya refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_5471.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-513\" alt=\"IMG_5471\" src=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_5471-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_5471-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_5471-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The declaration, which was signed at the European Parliament in Strasbourg,\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">was agreed upon by all\u00a0<\/span>parties, urging the Thai government and its officials to end any complicity with the criminal gangs trafficking Rohingya people, and other migrants in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>The motion also welcomes the long overdue statement by Aung San Suu Kyi&#8217;s opposition party, the National League for Democracy, on 18 May that the government of Burma should give citizenship to the Rohingya minority, who Mr Karim has previously criticised for her silence on their suffering at a time when the EU was lauding her as a human rights defender.<\/p>\n<p>It follows events at the beginning of May where the military-police discovered at least 30 bodies of ethnic Rohingya Muslims in a suspected human trafficking camp in the Sadao district of the Songkhla province close to the Thai-Malaysian border.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution also calls on Thai authorities to hold immediate, full and credible criminal investigations into the mass graves of Rohingya Muslims, and if necessary with UN assistance, to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Saj_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-514 aligncenter\" alt=\"Saj_1\" src=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Saj_1-300x187.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Saj_1-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Saj_1-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cpectrade.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Saj_1.jpg 1680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the issue, Mr Karim said :<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These horrific events have brought to light a trafficking ring that is truly shocking to people across the world. The Rohingya have been leaving Burma in large numbers since an outbreak of violence in 2012 that claimed hundreds of lives and left neighbourhoods completely destroyed.
